The Prairie Sangha is a community of practitioners in the Buddhist tradition of Vipassana meditation (also known as Theravada, Insight, or Mindfulness Meditation).
Our group was established in 1990 by Sandra Hammond, a graduate of the first Community Dharma Leaders program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and a senior student of Venerable Tsoknyi Rinpoche III. Sandra moved to Colorado in 2005, but she remains active with the sangha by offering Intensive Practice Development (IPD) programs over phone and email.
The Prairie Sangha is now a peer-led group, meeting Monday evenings at 6:30 pm at the Quaker Meetinghouse in Urbana. We offer instruction and mentoring in meditation practice and an evening program of silent meditation and dhamma talks. Please see the Schedule page for details.
We are also part of the Prairie Sangha Network, which includes Insight Chicago and the Peoria Insight Meditation Group. The Plank Trail Sangha in Park Forest is no longer active.
