The Prairie Sangha is a community of practitioners in the Theravada Buddhist tradition of Vipassana (or "Insight") meditation.
Our group was established in 1990 by Sandra Hammond, a graduate of the first Community Dharma Leaders program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. Sandra moved to Colorado in 2005.
The Prairie Sangha is now a peer-led community, meeting Monday evenings at 6:30 pm at the Quaker Meetinghouse in Urbana. We offer instruction in meditation practice and an evening program of silent meditation and dhamma talks as well as the occasional day-long retreat. Please see the Schedule page for details.
In 2018, the Prairie Sangha formally incorporated as an Illinois not-for-profit corporation.
